Essential Tip #1

Find your style of wedding film

It’s always good to watch plenty of wedding videos so that you can gain inspiration for your own wedding film. There are many different styles to choose from and most often your personality will reflect what style you choose from. Do you want your wedding film to look more like a music video, or a short film with an element of storytelling? Do you want to play up to the camera or do you want to have a more documentary style? There are so many ways to approach creating your wedding film and it’s important to discuss this with your wedding videographer.

Essential Tip #2

Personalities help tell the story of your wedding day

Our personalities are what make us unique, and every couple has a certain vibe they create together as a team. Make sure your wedding videographer gets to know who you really are before creating your wedding film. This will make a huge difference to the end product. Some people love playing up to the camera where as others are a little more shy and therefore a different approach is required by your videographer on the day.

Your wedding film is telling a story about your amazing day and the people in it, and the lead actors are the Bride and the Groom. So it is essential to have some in depth conversations with your videographer to ensure they know how to capture you best on this special day. The goal is to have you look back on your wedding film and be transported back into one of the most special days of your life!

Essential Tip #3

Golden hour will transform the look of your wedding film

One hour before sunset is an amazing time to do some creative portraits. At golden hour, you won’t get the kind of harsh shadows you see at high noon. Since the sun is so low on the horizon, the light is directional, creating long, and soft shadows giving dimension to your videos.

We all know how amazing this time of day can be, so why not plan to utilise it for those perfect slow motion, silky smooth cinematic shots in your wedding film! And if we have time we will even get out the drone for some epic landscape shots too. We promise you won’t regret making time for this and it will definitely make your wedding film super cinematic and beautiful!

Essential Tip #4

Incorporate a first look in your wedding film

First Look - An intimate moment between you and your fiancé prior to the wedding ceremony. During the first look videographers have the ability to gather more footage of pure emotions coming from both you and your fiancé. The first look also allows you and your fiancé to see each other before the ceremony thus allowing you to chill a bit more when you see them again at the ceremony… and perhaps you won’t be quite so nervous. Having time for a first look also makes it easier for photographers to get the wedding party photos done, so the time after the ceremony can be spent enjoying time with your family and friends.

Sometimes the first look is with the father of the bride instead of the groom. This creates that emotional response when the father sees his beautiful daughter ready to get married to the love of her life. What an amazing moment and one to treasure forever and one that will truely transform the look of your wedding film.

Essential Tip #5

Letter readings and personalised vows can help create emotion in your wedding film.

Personalised Ceremony Vows and Letter Readings really add a storytelling aspect to any wedding film. Letter readings are intimate notes that can be included in your wedding video as a voiceover. We record these whenever we have down time (this usually occurs after prep shots). If you do not have personal ceremony vows, we highly suggest including a letter reading as this will greatly enhance the quality of your wedding film. Both letter readings and personal vows, when added as a voiceover on your wedding film, make your video feel even more personal and heart-warming.
